A ripper is an attachment that can be fitted to an excavator and then used to break up hardground and surfaces, as well as rocks and dificult areas that would not initially be broken up withan excavator bucket.
Rippers are a cost effective attachment and are used extensively on construction sites dealingwith structural demolition as well as preparing the ground for new framing. Rippers are also usedextensively for landscape work as well as breaking up aprons and concrete.

What does a ripper do on an excavator?An excavating machine for loosening layers of frozen soil, rock (usually of medium strength), andartificial surfaces in layers using the tractive force of a prime mover. The working member of the ripper is a tooth with a replaceable tip and a wear-resistant protectivecovering. Modern rippers usually have a hydraulic drive to raise and lower the teeth, change theripping angle of the tip of the tooth, control the mechanism that positions the arms, and changethe spacing of the teeth. Some rippers have shock absorbers to reduce the transfer of peakdynamic loads to the prime mover and attachments for working with push tractors.
